How to Play Free Online Blackjack
If you are reading this, you may not be familiar with the rules of blackjack at all. Before you start playing, we recommend you read up on the playing rules, and everything that goes into your standard game of free blackjack.
Basic Rules
- Each player starts with two cards, the dealer has three and one of the dealers cards is hidden until the end
- Hit means you ask for another card
- Stand means you choose not to take anymore cards
- Double Down means you double your bet in the middle of the hand, and you can only get one more card
- Split means you can split your cards into two separate hands, and your have to place an equal bet to the first hand on your second hand.
- Cards from 10s to Kings are equal to 10
How to Win
- You have to beat the dealers hand without going over 21
- 21 is blackjack, which is a win immediately
- If you go over 21, you go bust and the dealer wins
- The dealer must hit on any hand that is 16 or over
Free vs Real Money Play
- The only major difference is that in real money play, you and other players will be playing against the dealer for a large pool of money. You are playing against the dealer, not other players, for a pool of money
- With free blackjack, the concept is the same, only no real money currency is involved. This means the dealer stands to lose nothing, which means everyone is playing blackjack online for fun.
Popular Blackjack Variants
When talking about the general rules of blackjack here, we are referring to your classic game of blackjack. Classic blackjack features these basic rules, but there are some blackjack rules that differ depending on the type of game you are playing.
European Blackjack
The rules of European blackjack are mostly the same as classic, but there are a couple of differences.
- The dealer always stands on a soft 17.
- Players can still double, after splitting, on either hand.
- If the dealer has blackjack, it’s an automatic loss for the player
Vegas Strip Blackjack
Vegas Strip Blackjack ramps up the stakes even more. It does include elements of European Blackjack, such as the dealer standing on 17 and players can double after splitting. You can also:
- If the face up cards are Aces and 10s, the dealer can peek for a blackjack
- Players can split to four hands if they wish
- Any hand with an Ace can only be split once
- Surrendering a hand is barred
Multi-Hand Blackjack
Multi-Hand blackjack does what it says on the tin: it allows a player to use multiple hands. This, of course, does change the rules of the blackjack game slightly.
- A player can have 3-5 hands in play at once
- Splitting is allowed on any two cards of the same value e.g two 3s, two 9s, a 10 and a King
- Doubles are allowed on split hands
- Doubles are only allowed on hands that have totals of 9,10 or 11.

Blackjack Strategy for Beginners
It always helps to learn a few strategies when you start out playing blackjack, especially if you are unfamiliar with the game. In this case, you could use something called a blackjack chart. A blackjack chart will essentially teach you when to hit/stand, when to double or split and when to surrender, if you are in a position where you should.
These charts are the best way to strategize for blackjack, especially if you are a novice, as it teaches you which combination of cards is the most likely to win or lose.
However, if you plan on taking your free blackjack play to real money, we would not advise putting all your trust into the chart. For something even more advanced, you can also learn how to count cards in blackjack, though that does come with its own risks.
Remember that you should always bet only what you can afford. Do whatever you can to budget yourself, such as setting up a separate eWallet for your blackjack play, or setting weekly limits on your online casino – responsible gambling is key.
