Book of Dead Slot Review: Discover Timeless Gameplay & Key Elements
There are some slot games that have become synonymous with online casino play. They are so popular, and so commonly played across major online casinos, that they have become a flagship to the online slot betting world.
The Book of Dead slot game is one of those casino games, and in this review, we are going to see if it lives up to the hype. Released in May of 2014 by trusted developer Play,N’Go, the Book of Dead game has shot to popularity over the years for a variety of different reasons.
Variety is the key word here: it offers a great experience for players who are looking for value, and variety. Most of all, we were most impressed with the Book of Dead slot multipliers. There’s plenty to be found, as well as some unique symbols and features we have not seen in many other games. All of this adds up to a recipe for a great slot game, and their features are well worth learning about.

Book of Dead Slot Features
The Book of Dead game is clearly dated when compared to modern new slots, but the iconic yet simple features do work well, which is why it has stood the test of time.
Tomb Wild/Scatter symbols
Of course, you cannot have a great slot game without valuable scatter symbols. The scatter symbols in the Book of Dead slot game operate the same as any other. They substitute for other symbols in the reels, and help you get a winning set of reels. However, they act as a multiplier in themselves. If you line up five Tomb Wild or Scatter symbols, you will get your hands on 200x the original bet. The Tomb Wild symbols are also instrumental in activating free spins. Hit three or more Tomb Wild symbols in a reel, and you’ll activate your free spins offers.
Rich Wilde symbol
Like any other adventure film or game, there has to be an adventurist protagonist. For the Book of Dead slot game, our protagonist is not Indiana Jones, or Nathan Drake. His name is Rich Wilde, and if you line up three or more of his reels together, you’ll come to love him yourself. His symbol offers to the highest payout, with a multiplier that can reach up to 500x, if you line up five reels. 4 will get you a 100x multiplier, and 3 will get you a 10x multiplier. Try out the Book of Dead demo yourself at the top of this page, and you’ll come to find your own love for Rich Wilde.
Book of Dead Slot Free Spins and Bonuses
Free spins are the biggest bonus offer that the Book of Dead slot game has to offer, and you’ll soon come to realise how valuable they are. Whether you are playing for real money, or simply trying the Book of Dead demo free play, the free spins offer big wins for players. As mentioned before, you have to line up three or more Tomb Wild or Scatter symbols to activate the free spins.
You will get 10 free spins no matter how many scatters you get, but the amount of scatters you get affects your free spins multipliers. Three scatters awards you a 2x multiplier, four gives you a 20x multiplier and five gifts a 200x multiplier. You may also come across the unique ‘Book of Dead’ symbol during your free spins. This only appears in free spins rounds, and its an expanding symbol that covers a whole reel. Once you hit this, you’re guaranteed to hit a number of multipliers on your spin.
Book of Dead Themes and Symbols
The Book of Dead slot game focuses on an Ancient Egyptian aesthetic, which is a unique theme that is often not focused upon in many different slot games. You’ll immediately be met with the Ancient Egyptian feel when you boot up the game. With a beige backdrop that looks like the inside of a pyramid, all the reels are in a hieroglyphic font, and you’ll find many of the special symbols are all emblems of Ancient Egypt.
You have Rich Wilde, the protagonist explorer. You have a female pharaoh, and the Egyptian gods Osiris, Horus and Anubis all represented in multiplier symbols. We are huge fans of this feel and theme, and we feel it fits the overall play of the game like a glove, which is why the Play’n GO title has seen such success.
Book of Dead Slot RTP and Volatility
The Book of a Dead is a high multiplier game, so it comes as no surprise it’s a high volatility game. The volatility of a game determines how likely you are to win based on how much you bet. So, a low volatility game offers frequent wins, at smaller amounts. A high offers infrequent wins, but when you do win, it’s a larger amount. Book of Dead certainly sits on the higher end o the spectrum.
The RTP is also slightly above average. The Return to Player determines how likely it is your stake will be returned to you the more you play. The current RTP for the Book of Dead slot is 96.21%, which is just above average for a game of this calibre.
Should you prefer modern mechanics but an alternative slot with similar RTP and volatility then we can suggest Wild Trucks. This vehicle-themed release has a gorgeous presentation which complements the 96.71% RTP and high volatility. You will immediately notice the care that has gone into it from Habanero and it has a progressive jackpot plus expanding Wilds.
How To Play Book of Dead Slot Game
Playing this game is as straightforward as it comes. Taking place on a with 5 reels and 3 rows, everything you need to play will be on the bottom banner of the screen, and accessing all of these is simple. In the left corner, you will find your remaining balance. You can also adjust the bet amount, and the bet level, in the sliders next to this.
In the right hand corner, you will find the spin button, the autoplay button and the paytable button. The paytable button just shows you the multipliers of all available symbols. Slotsia’s Review
Book of Dead is a decade old classic that we believe still holds up today. It has everything a player would want from a themed, classic slot game such as this. The Book of Dead bonus multipliers are high, there’s a variety in gameplay and the visuals never serve to bore.
The only critique we have is that it could use some variety in terms of special features. Compared to modern games, this does not hold up to many of the current popular games that have an abundance of features. All the same, we would absolutely recommend trying out the Book of Dead demo for yourself before considering heading to a real money casino.
Solid RTP – 96.21%
Excellent range of bonus features
Straightforward mechanics
Lacks modern features and graphics
