Burning Sun Slot Review: RTP & Gameplay Overview
Get ready for another sizzling release in Wazdan’s Hold the Jackpot series with the launch of Burning Sun, a 4×4 scatter pays online slot that comes with a maximum payout of 5,000x your stake.
The provider’s Hold the Jackpot series has only grown in popularity as of late and we’re always intrigued to see what new mechanics and twists await with each new release – this time it’s a new feature called Sticky to Infinity. It’s a game packed full of sticky symbols, wilds, respins and jackpots, along with Wazdan’s unique inclusion of an adjustable volatility setting. As such, there’s plenty to discover so be sure to continue reading our in-depth Burning Sun slot review to find out what lies in store.
Burning Sun Features
In-game bonuses have long been the lifeblood of any modern online slot. They’re often the reason why certain slots have replay value, whilst others may be a one-time affair. Knowing this, Wazdan has empowered Burning Sun’s gameplay with several unique features and mechanics. The base game comes with several novel enhancements, whilst the main attraction is clearly the Hold the Jackpot Respin bonus game. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
Scatter Pays
Instead of using a traditional payline structure, Burning Wins comes with a Scatter Pays mechanic. Here, you’ll simply need to land 10-16 matching symbols anywhere on the reels to form a win.
Wilds
Wild symbols substitute for all regular paytable symbols to help create winning combinations. They cannot, however, be used in conjunction with Bonus symbols to trigger the Hold the Jackpot feature.
Sticky To Infinity
The one feature that makes Burning Suns stand out from earlier releases in the series is the new Sticky to Infinity mechanic. During the base game, whenever a Mystery or Jackpot Mystery Bonus symbol lands with the Sticky to Infinity logo, it will increase your chances of triggering the Hold the Jackpot bonus game by permanently sticking to the reels.
Sticking Mystery and Jackpot Mystery symbols only persist between spins for each individual bet level. Therefore, playing a spin at a different stake will remove all sticky symbols from the reels.
Burning Sun Free Spins and Bonus
As the primary feature of this online slot is the Hold the Jackpot bonus game, you cannot win traditional free spins on Burning Sun. Instead, what’s on offer is a Respin bonus that drastically improves your chances of landing larger payouts.
To trigger the Hold the Jackpot bonus, you’ll need to land at least 6 Bonus symbols of any type. Pleasingly, this doesn’t have to be during a single spin as Sticky to Infinity symbols persist between rounds, whilst if you land 4 or 5 Cash symbols they stick to the reels for one respin.
Once activated, you’ll begin with 3 respins, with each new Bonus symbol landing resetting the spin counter back to 3. The bonus will continue until your remaining respins reach zero, or all reels are filled with Bonus symbols. Bonus symbols can award the following prizes:
- Cash symbols: Prizes ranging from 1x-10x, 12x and 15x the triggering bet.
- Jackpot symbols: Mini, Minor and Major Jackpots, worth 20x, 50x and 150x, respectively.
- Mystery Symbol: Can transform into any other Bonus symbol.
- Jackpot Mystery Symbol: Can transform into Collector, Mini, Minor or Major Jackpot symbols.
- Collector Symbol: Collects all Cash symbol values on-screen and multiplies the total sum by 1x-20x.
Finally, if you’re fortunate enough to land 16 Bonus symbols, covering the entire grid during the bonus, you’ll receive the Grand Jackpot, worth 5,000x your stake.
Burning Sun Theme and Symbols
Thematically, this release is somewhat on the nose, with the titular burning sun lying in the background, setting fire to much of the visible play area. In truth, it’s hardly the most inventive theme nor the most innovative execution. Nevertheless, it serves its purpose and will still likely appeal to a wide audience.
With the symbols, you get a combination of the classics. 9-A royals make up the lower end of the paytable, whilst gold stars and lucky 7s denote more valuable payouts – the latter awarding 200x your stake for 16 matching symbols.
Burning Sun RTP and Volatility
With an RTP of 96.19%, Burning Sun compares reasonably well to the majority of modern online slots, falling comfortably in line with the average return-to-player rate.
The game’s volatility, however, is something we must highlight. Unlike other providers, Wazdan has included an adjustable volatility setting, meaning you can alter the underlying gameplay. You can select from three options (Low, Standard and High) by clicking the chilli symbol next to the spin button – more chillis mean higher volatility. The lower end of the scale increases the frequency of wins, although they’re often smaller, whilst the upper end involves taking much more risk for greater potential rewards.
How To Play Burning Sun
Although Burning Sun comes with a range of interesting features and unique mechanics, it’s an extremely simple game to play. The 4×4 grid utilises a Scatter Pays mechanic to award wins, which means you won’t have to worry about landing matching symbols in specific positions or patterns. As long as you land 10 or more of the same symbol, you’ll win.
The game’s functionality is another positive, too. All of the necessary buttons surround the reels, including the paytable, the various bet levels, the adjustable volatility setting and, of course, the spin button. Plus, we’re happy to report that Burning Sun should appeal to both conservative spinners and high rollers thanks to its wide range of stakes, ranging from the €0.10 minimum bet to the €100 maximum bet.
Slotsia’s Review
Wazdan has launched a selection of entertaining slots of late and we’re confident Burning Sun is set to be another hit with players – especially those who favour a less complicated approach to online slot gameplay.
Admittedly, we do feel the game’s aesthetic design leaves a bit to be desired. However, we also imagine most players are more concerned about the range of features on offer, which is an area where Burning Sun excels. The Hold the Jackpot bonus game trigger requirement doesn’t feel overly demanding, especially when you consider there are Sticky symbols and base game respins to take into account. Plus, when you gain access to the feature, the prospect of multiple jackpots and a 5,000x maximum payout is sure to get the adrenaline flowing.
Of course, as with all slots, you’re going to need good fortune to be on your side if you’re aiming for big returns but we feel the overall Burning Sun experience is one that will be enjoyed by most players.
