We’ve all seen our fair share of Egypt-themed video slots come and go. Some manage to rise above the rest through innovative design and features, while others are instantly dismissed, doomed to wander the merciless sands of irrelevance. So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise when Microgaming and partners Slingshot Games present us with yet another Egyptian themed slot, Links of Ra.
The title does give off an instantly good vibe, with an impressive presentation and a host of varied features. But is this really enough to make Links of Ra stand out from the rest of the crowd? All will be revealed below.

While Links of Ra puts in the effort in trying to include a mor varied set of mechanics and features, it’s not exactly an oasis of activity either. Wild and Stacked symbols come into play in both the base game and free spins, accompanied by the Link and Win feature, which serves as the slot’s main attraction. The mechanics are implemented well, although they’re all features which we’ve experienced before in one shape or another, with very little in terms of innovation or originality to speak of.
Wild Symbols
The slot’s logo serves as the Wild symbol in Links of Ra. The wild symbol steps in for any paying symbols that can form part of a winning combination. The symbols also carry their own value, with 5 of a kind resulting in a x25 stake reward.
Power Stacks
Triggered randomly on any spin across both the base game and free spins, Power Stacks are identical, stacked symbols that land on the reels in stacked form. They can be any symbol available in-game, apart from the Wild and Scatter symbols.
Link and Win
Link of Ra’s main even, the Link and Win feature operates in classic Hold and Win fashion. Triggered by 6-coin symbols, the feature locks all triggering symbols in place and activates 3 re-spins. Any new coins that land are also locked in place and reset the re-spin counter. Players will find regular coins as well as jackpot coins.
There are 4 jackpot coins to speak of, Mini, Minor, Mega and Grand, offering 20x, 100x, 500x and 2,000x rewards respectively. Links of Ra manages to get a lot right with its high-quality presentation and solid features. But, unfortunately, both the theme and its content are things we’ve already seen and played before, offering very little in terms of both originality and innovation. There is still enough to enjoy with this game for us to recommend giving it a try, though.
