Maximum Stake Limits Could Be Introduced At UK Casinos

Maximum stake limits could soon be applied to UK players at online casinos, it has been reported.

According to a report from Bloomberg, government ministers are actively considering a range of measures to update the current legislation, which was published 17 years ago.

One of these is to limit the amount that players can bet, setting a maximum stake of between £2 and £5.

With no current maximum amount that can be staked, the introduction of such a policy would mark a huge change for players, with most online slots letting punters stake between £50 and £100 on every spin. Ramifications for table games would also be severe if this were applied.

Additionally, Bloomberg reports that casinos may be required to run “affordability checks” on players to ensure that they are spending within their means. There have long been calls for the current laws to be updated for the 21st century, with the Gambling Act 2005 widely seen as outdated and not suitable for the current gambling landscape or the massive technological changes that have taken place in the past two decades.

It is expected that exact regulations will be announced in the near future, with responsible gambling at the forefront of the proposed legislation changes.
