Aureus Slot Review: RTP Insights & Key Gameplay Elements
Delve deep into the pantheon of ancient Rome, as Jupiter himself welcomes you to his lightning-clad reels. With Aureus, Microgaming in conjunction with Crazy Tooth Studios transports us to the king of gods’ realm for an innovative twist on the video slot genre.
Aureus brings a very interesting mechanic into play. The CoinVerge feature essentially changes the way Aureus is played and most importantly, the way winning combinations are determined. But will this transformative innovation take Aureus to new heights, or does it crumble under the weight of its own expectations? Read our in-depth review below to find out more!
- Paylines: CoinVerge
- RTP: 96.00%
- Volatility: Medium
- Features: Win Multiplier, Re-Spins, Symbol Swap, Coin Collector
Aureus Features
With the CoinVerge mechanic at the centre of it all, Aureus throws in a series of modifiers that build upon the core feature and create a layered experience.
CoinVerge
The most crucial mechanic in Aureus, CoinVerge brings a healthy dose of innovation with its fresh way of calculating wins. Instead of paylines, betways and clusters, CoinVerge bases its winning combinations on the use of winning brackets. Whenever a player spins the reels, winning brackets will land on the left- and right-hand side of the reels. Should the opening and closing sides of the brackets meet, they will create a Collection Area. Any symbols that fall in the Collection Area are collected and their rewards are paid out to the player.
Reel Modifiers and Multipliers
Building on the CoinVerge mechanic, some symbols can reward players with win multipliers and reel modifiers when they land within a Collection Area. The list of bonuses includes the following:
- Multiplier Coin: Awards players with a Win Multiplier that ranges between x2 – x5 and affects all symbols in the Collection Area.
- Upgrade Coin: Bumps up all low and medium paying symbols to the high variant and throws in an additional high paying symbol.
- Collect Column Coin: Collects all of the symbols in its respective reel.
- Collect All Coin: Collects all of the symbols on all of the board’s reels.
- Re-spins Coin: Awards players with 2, 3 or even 5 re-spins.
Lightning Feature
Triggered at random, the Lightning feature can be activated whenever a closing bracket lands on the reels. Should the bracket not match with an opening one, Jupiter himself might intervene to spawn a new opening bracket that matches the closing one, showering players with additional rewards.
Aureus Free Spins and Bonus
Although Aureus doesn’t include any Free Spin modes, although players can enjoy a healthy dose of Re-spins.
Aureus Theme and Symbols
Crazy Tooth Studios has taken the decision to present Jupiter’s glory in cartoon format. The designs look very similar to a certain Disney animation from the late 1990s, although that particular title dealt with Greek deities instead. Still, the overall presentation works well in this setting too, with an unconventional reel design adding another layer of mystery and intrigue to the game. The soundscape works well with the theme as well, although Jupiter’s howls of joy upon landing a winning streak can border on annoying at times. Still, Aureus manages to bring its theme to life with an overall great presentation.
Aureus RTP & Volatility
With a Medium volatility setting and a return to player rate of 96.00%, players can expect to land quite a few constant wins, although the x2431 max win cap can limit the potential for really big wins.
How to Play Aureus
Despite its core innovations, playing Aureus remains an easy affair. Simply pick your favourite bet settings and spin away to your heart’s content. You could even use the auto-play function that will spin on your behalf while you sit back and watch the game unfold.
Slotsia’s Review
With Aureus, Crazy Tooth Gaming has managed to create something that is truly unique through its ingenious CoinVerge mechanic. The rest of the mechanic and features that have been included help to create a layered experience with plenty of ups and downs to look forward too. Additionally, the graphics and soundtrack make for a welcoming experience.
Our only concern would be the low potential that the game offers, which could deter hardcore players and shorten its shelf life.
